A few common questions we get about our therapy services
Is therapy right for me?
Everybody’s reasons for seeking out therapy are different. Some folks may need to seek therapy for anxiety & depression, others may need to deal with their childhood trauma. There is no “right” or “wrong”, “legitimate” or “illegitimate” reason to go to therapy. Working with a therapist can help provide you with the awareness, insight, and strategies to deal with every type of challenge that may enter your life. Therapy is the right fit for anyone who is keen on regaining control over their life, wishes to build their self-awareness, and wants to work towards a better and brighter future.
What can I expect from the consultation?
Your consultation will be 15 minutes and will be led by a licensed therapist. This is an opportunity for you to confidentially share your reasons for seeking therapy and learn more about how Ritualize can best support you. If Ritualize is not the right fit for you, we will gladly provide you with referrals to other providers.
What should I expect during my initial session with my therapist?
During your first session together, your therapist will spend time getting to know you and what you’d like to work on in therapy. In addition to gaining information about what’s happening presently in your life, they will ask some questions about your personal history for more context. Your therapist will also leave time at the end of the session to answer questions and discuss the logistics of future visits.
How long should I expect to be in therapy for?
Therapy is a process that looks different for everyone. While some people are looking for short-term work around a specific problem, others may be looking to heal from deeper wounds. Some clients want a supportive person to help them navigate the ups and downs of their lives without a set time frame.
In the beginning, you and your therapist will discuss what you are hoping to get out of therapy. As you continue to work together, what you need or want may change. Your therapist will check in periodically throughout your treatment to make sure your goals are being met and to ensure therapy is a rewarding, fulfilling experience.
What state do I have to be located in to receive therapeutic services?
Our therapists are currently licensed in New York state and are able to see those located all across the state of New York. We are also currently able to serve those living outside of the U.S.
One other important thing to note, we run two different companies simultaneously: Ritualize LLC, which solely provides holistic wellness services (to include breathwork, embodiment meditation, meditation sound healing and reiki) and Mind Body Psychotherapy LCSW PC, which provides psychotherapy sessions.
For our psychotherapy clients, we are able to seamlessly weave holistic practices into our approach, if you choose to. However, there may be some clients who want to simply just receive some of our holistic wellness services on a drop-in or short-term basis and are not looking to treat a mental health diagnosis. We reserve a few slots for this purpose. It is important to note that for those seeking to schedule drop-in wellness services, these practices are not intended to treat psychiatric diagnoses and those clients will be treated as wellness clients and not therapeutic clients. The wellness services will be available to those located anywhere across the globe.
How long are sessions?
Each session is 50 minutes long. There may be times when a client may need extra support and it can be arranged for a session to be longer.
What is your cancellation policy?
Consistency is an essential part of the therapeutic process and when you schedule an appointment, that time has been specifically reserved for you. If you are unable to keep an appointment, we require 24 hours advance notice or you will be charged for the full fee amount of the canceled or missed appointment. Thank you for respecting our time and valuing the time that has been set aside for you.
What can I talk about in therapy?
Therapy is a safe space for you to tell your story—in your own words. You might start by telling your therapist about what’s been going on recently that brought you to therapy. From there, you may begin to connect how your current circumstances resonate with past experiences. We can then begin to understand where you’re operating on “autopilot'“ instead of taking an active role in creating the life you want.
Is therapy confidential?
Your privacy is our number one priority at Ritualize. Everything your therapist and you speak about in your sessions will be kept confidential. You may feel free to share with whomever you choose about your work with your therapist. In times where you may want your therapist to speak with other professionals, or personal family members, verbal or written consent/ permission will be required. Ritualize clinicians may discuss your therapy without any identification for educational and supervisory purposes.
It is important to note however, that there are a few exceptions to confidentiality such as: 1) If your therapist learns of any alleged child/elder abuse or neglect, they are required by law to report this to the State Child Abuse Registry or State Adult Protective Services, 2) If your therapist deems you to be a danger to yourself or others, they may need to break confidentiality in order to assure your safety or the safety of others, and 3) If your therapist is court ordered to disclose information.
Fees & Insurance
Do you accept insurance?
For our therapy services, we are currently out-of-network providers with all insurances. If your insurance has out-of-network benefits, you may be entitled to a 50-90% reimbursement.
You’ll have access to all billing documents anytime you need them through your personal client login to our secure online office. By request, you will also receive monthly statements emailed directly to you for convenience, which you can use to personally submit a claim.
For all wellness services, there is no option to have these reimbursed by your insurance.
Why don't you take insurance?
Like most private and boutique therapy practices in the New York tri-state area, Ritualize has made the decision to be out-of-network with insurance plans. If we were to accept other insurance plans, we would be essentially working for the insurance company on their terms. They have the right to dictate the number of sessions they cover and reject claims if the diagnosis you’re given isn’t “severe” enough. They would also have permanent access to all of your personal health information. By being out-of-network, Ritualize works directly and privately for you. This gives us much greater flexibility in terms of our work together and also guarantees a higher level of confidentiality.
In addition to that, insurance companies are notorious for giving very low pay-out rates that fall along the lines of being exploitive. It's also not uncommon for them to refuse to pay their clinicians for services that I have already been conducted, or take an incredibly long time to pay out for these services. Due to these reasons, we have decided to be private-pay only, while also offerings reduced fee spots.
What should I ask my insurance provider about?
Here are some questions that might be helpful to ask your insurance company:
• Does my plan offer any out-of-network benefits for mental health?
• Do I have a deductible? If yes, how much of it has already been met?
• Are there any limitations on the number of sessions my plan covers for mental health?
• How much will I be reimbursed per visit when I see an out-of-network mental health provider?
• Do I need prior approval or a referral in order to receive reimbursement for out-of-network mental health care?
What is a deductible?
A deductible is the amount you pay for covered health care services before your insurance plan licks in and starts to pay. For example, with a $500 deductible, you pay the first $500 of covered services yourself. After you meet your deductible, you usually pay only a copayment or coinsurance for covered services. Your insurance company then pays the rest.
What are your out-of-network fees?
An individual therapy session for 50 minutes in length is $275.
Please note that many health insurance plans offer out-of-network mental health benefits, which is when your insurance provider reimburses you for a portion of your therapy session. Please check with your insurance to see if this is a benefit they provide.
What if your fees are too high for me?
It is important that you feel comfortable with the financial investment you're making in therapy. At Ritualize, we do prioritize quality over quantity; therefore, our therapists work with a reasonable caseload size, have ample time for continuing professional education and supervision, and only work with clients who are truly the best fit.
Although our private pay rates are standard for our specializations within the New York tri-state area, we understand this may not work for everyone. We are happy to recommend low-fee and insurance-based agencies.
We believe in making therapy accessible, while also adequately compensating our therapists to be able to take on less clients, provide higher quality care, and prevent burn-out. We offer a limited number of spots at a significantly reduced rate of $65. As you can imagine, these spots fill up quickly. At the moment, all slots are currently booked.
Due to the unpredictable nature of the length of one's therapy journey, we don't keep a waitlist, but we will announce both here on our website, as well as our social media pages when a new spot opens up. We are excited to expand the team, because each therapist will be required to have a certain number of reduced-fee spots, so the more therapists we have, the more spots that will be available!
How does payment work?
Clients are responsible for full payment of our agreed-upon fee-for-service by the beginning of each session by credit card, which is stored securely in your client file. You may access this information anytime through your client login in our online office. We charge for each session 24 hours before the session is scheduled to begin.
Virtual Therapy
What are the benefits of virtual therapy?
Whether you are on a time crunch, are facing unforeseen crises, or have scheduling conflicts, virtual therapy is a safe alternative for ex-pats, humanitarians, people with fast-paced and modern lifestyles, and folks that otherwise may not have the accessibility to high-quality mental health care. From the comfort and safety of your home, you can begin your personal journey of healing.
How do I know that my information and video calls will remain secure and confidential?
Ritualize has long been using virtual therapy. For folks across the globe, and folks nearby, We have adapted to implement an online secure platform that best fits the needs of our clients. Our online state-of-the-art platform is HIPPA compliant and secure. All correspondence between you and your therapist is protected.
What does virtual therapy give me that in-person therapy won’t?
Our portal will allow you to send your therapist messages between sessions in the case of an emergency/re-scheduling, and upload shared documents for homework or journal entry. Our platform exists on a web-based platform as well as in the form of an app that is downloadable on all phone models. You are able to check into your session using either your phone, laptop or any other tablet device, and we offer both video and voice sessions. We also understand that some things are more easily discussed through text rather than speech, especially disclosures that are emotionally charged. Through our secure messaging platform you are able to communicate with your therapist via instant messaging, to allow you to express yourself in the way you deem most comfortable for you.
Why not use a big teletherapy company?
Online therapy companies have exploded in the wake of the global pandemic. They typically offer cheap therapy; however, there is a reason they are able to do this. Understanding how large corporations operate can help you make an informed decision when choosing how you want to invest in your mental health. Large therapy businesses reimburse clinicians very poorly which quickly leads to professional burnout since therapists must see more clients than is ethically responsible just to earn a living.
There are minimal vetting processes for therapists to join and they provide no clinical supervision. This means no oversight for quality assurance or accountability in the kind of care clients receive. Additionally, these contracted clinicians are not provided with any continuing education to help them develop their skills or stay informed about science and research advancements in the field of psychology. When a service as important as psychotherapy is offered to clients below market value, it also raises concerns about privacy, as the potential exists that client data is being sold to offset cost-effectiveness for clients.
How is Ritualize different?
At Ritualize, we feel so strongly about continuing professional education in this science-based field that it is one of our core values as a practice. All clinicians at Ritualize receive weekly group supervision, peer support, individual supervision, and participate in continuous trainings throughout the year on trauma research and therapeutic interventions. When a new team member joins our staff, they have completed a rigorous application process as well as having successfully passed our multi-step interviews. We strive to create a quality, collaborative, and healthy work environment for our clinicians also because it means better care for you.
Guided Embodiment Sessions
I have never done a guided embodiment session before. What is the process of a session?
The session is about 50 minutes in length, held via video and always begins with a few questions that assist with guiding us in the process, so that we can move about the session with intention, such as, “What would you like the goal of the session to be today?” “What is an undesirable feeling you have been experiencing lately?” “What are the actions/inactions associated with that feeling?” “What is the desired feeling you would like to be experiencing instead?” “What actions/inactions would be associated with that feeling?”
From there, I guide you into what I refer to as a “drop-in” process, which is essentially a guided embodiment meditation that’s about 10 minutes in length to begin switching your awareness from outside to within, making it easier to get in contact with your emotions. Your eyes are usually closed at this time and you are in a seated position in a chair, couch, etc. There may be subtle movement involved in your seat, as well, such as gentle swaying or stretching so as to drop into the body further. Ultimately, it’s whatever movements or non-movements your body would naturally have you take.
From there, depending on the goal of the session, I may guide you to confront, hold space for and to feel into the undesirable feeling or suppressed emotions as a means of welcoming it and expressing it through the body (to ultimately find completion). Other times, I may guide the client to somatically feel into the desirable emotion, instead, orientating the body to begging really feeling into the root textures of that desired sensation and emotion, such as confidence or power.
These sessions are very fluid and often very vulnerable. The clients I work with typically have their eyes closed the entire time to really drop into the body, as I guide them throughout meeting various layers of the experience and emotions that arise.
At the end of the session, we will close out the embodiment portion, open up the eyes and briefly chat prior to closing the session out, highlighting any key take-aways and potential actionable steps to take moving forward.
What type of things can embodiment sessions be beneficial for?
These sessions are incredibly dynamic and can be beneficial for just about anything - any emotion that you would like to release or any emotion you would like to create/bring in. As previously mentioned, I like to incorporate these sessions into the therapeutic process because they are incredibly helpful in assisting a client come into contact with suppressed emotions that haven’t yet found completion. I truly believe that everything has to be expressed before it can be released. However, it’s not all about feeling into and holding space for the “dark” and “heavy”. I have plenty of clients who use these sessions to somatically feel into the desired emotions, as well, such as orientating the body to drop into and experience the sensations of confidence, beauty, power, or ease. If you’ve never felt these sensations, or you struggle holding the embodied resonance of these sensations with more consistency, all it means is that we have to train the body to show up and feel that way more consciously. These sessions can greatly help with that.
I use this process with clients who may be struggling with symptoms of PTSD, depression or anxiety, and I also use this process with clients who may not hold a mental health diagnosis, but have various tensions that they are looking to work through, such as a break up, feelings of insecurity, etc. You can also use these sessions to “feel into” any desired feeling, too.
Can I sign up to do an embodiment session if I am not a therapy client?
Yes! While the majority of our weekly appointments here at Ritualize are reserved for our long-term therapy-clients, we do have a few slots a week open for this exact purpose.
Breathwork Meditation Sessions
I have never done a guided breathwork meditation session before, what is the process like?
The session is about 50 minutes in length and it’s held via video. Prior to the session, I will gather necessary information in regard to the goal/intention of the session. Based upon the information gathered, the session will be curated specifically to your goal. You will be laying flat on the ground or on a bed, with no pillow underneath. I will be playing a unique playlist of music while I simultaneously guide you with my voice into the session. You will be laying down flat, with your eyes closed as you conduct a very active pranayama breath, taking two deep inhales through the nose and an exhale through the mouth.
The active breathing will be done for about 35 minutes total, with 3 separate “verbal releases” throughout, where I guide you to grab a pillow and yell into the pillow. (This is a great process for releasing!!! As weird as it may sound, it can be very powerful. The pillow helps mute out the sound, and you can comfortably do this exercise in a private room while others are still in the house.) After we have gone through the process of active breathing and releasing, towards the end of the session, you will resume a normal breathing rhythm, and I will be using my voice more frequently to guide you into a visualization meditation so as to assist in embodying and visualizing the desired sensations, as well. This practice can be both very powerful and incredibly beautiful.
Will I physically feel any sensations while doing this practice?
While everyone’s body is different and everyone has different reactions, it is not uncommon to experience a tingling sensation in the body. Sometimes your hands may kind of “cramp up”, as well, looking like “t-rex” hands. This is okay, your hands will go back to normal. There’s not an exact science as to why this happens, though it is believed to be due to the altering CO2 levels in the body.
Is there anyone who should not do this practice?
Some people should not attempt active pranayama breathwork sessions, including those with certain health conditions or who have recently experienced an injury or surgery: cardiovascular disease, respiratory problems, recent injury or surgery. Other conditions that may contraindicate breathwork include glaucoma, detached retina, epilepsy, seizures, advanced osteoporosis, panic attacks or psychosis and pregnancy.
Can I sign up to do a breathwork meditation session if I am not a therapy client?
Yes! While the majority of our weekly appointments here at Ritualize are reserved for our long-term therapy-clients, we do have a few slots a week open for this exact purpose.
Private Sound Healing Sessions
I have never done a private sound healing session before, what is the process like?
The session is about 50 minutes in length and it’s held via video. Prior to our session, I will gather necessary information that will help guide the session specifically curated upon your needs. You are typically laying down for these sessions, in a comfortable position. The session usually begins with me lightly playing the sound bowls while I guide you into a meditation with my voice to assist in dropping into the body. From there, I typically transition into just playing the bowls without my voice. At the end, I will use my voice again, to guide you back into your body and back into the present moment before closing out the session.
Do you offer any sound healing sessions in-person or for events?
Yes, we are available for private in-person sound healing sessions in your home, for a private event or corporate events on a case-by-case basis. Please reach out to get more specific information for these requests.
What makes sound healing so soothing?
Sound healing is soothing because it helps synchronize the brain's electrical activity, or brainwaves, to specific frequencies associated with relaxation and healing. When you listen to soothing sounds, your brain can shift from a high-frequency state (associated with alertness and stress) to lower frequencies like alpha and theta, which are linked to relaxation and deep meditation. This shift can reduce stress, enhance mental clarity, and promote overall well-being, making sound healing a powerful tool for relaxation and healing.
Private Reiki Sessions
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that involves the transfer of energy through the hands of a practitioner to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The term "Reiki" comes from the Japanese words "Rei" (universal) and "Ki" (life energy).
Is your philosophy different in any way?
Over the years, my philosophy and approach to using Reiki has shifted. I believe that the power to heal innately resides within each and every one of us as the individual - that you do not "need" a Reiki "healer" to access this healing. It's the same reason that I never call myself a "healer", because I'm not. You are; your body is... and that distinction, to me, feels incredibly important. I'm simply a facilitator, a compassionate witness.
I have never done a private reiki session before, what is the process like?
The session is about 50 minutes in length and it’s held in-person. The session begins with a brief chat to gain clarity into the intention behind the session so as to curate it specifically to your needs. You then lay down fully clothed on your back on a massage table, with your eyes closed. In my reiki sessions, I typically play soothing music in the background, lightly play the sound bowls, incorporate essential oils and also lightly use my hands as I touch upon the different reiki points. This feels like light pressure being gently pushed on different parts of your body.
What should I wear to a Reiki session?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Since you will remain fully clothed during the session, it’s best to wear something that allows you to relax completely.
How should I prepare for a Reiki session?
There is no special preparation needed for a Reiki session. However, it can be helpful to arrive with an open mind and a willingness to relax. Avoid heavy meals or alcohol before your session.
What will I feel during a Reiki session?
Individuals experience Reiki differently. Common sensations include warmth, tingling, or a gentle pulsing where the practitioner's hands are placed. Some people feel deeply relaxed and may even fall asleep during the session.
Are there any side effects of Reiki?
Reiki is generally considered safe with no known harmful side effects. Some people may experience a temporary increase in emotions or fatigue as their body processes the healing energy, but this usually passes quickly.
Holistic Wellness
I already have a therapist elsewhere, but I am interested in receiving some of your wellness services. Is this possible?
Yes, that is possible! We also have some clients that do not hold a mental health diagnosis that are simply looking for wellness services for holistic wellbeing. It’s important to note that if you choose to solely receive wellness services, you will not be treated as a psychotherapy client, meaning we will not be providing treatment for a mental health diagnosis during our sessions, though that doesn’t mean you can’t use these sessions as supplementation for treatment you may be receiving with someone else elsewhere.
What are the different wellness services that you provide?
Outside of therapy, we provide private breathwork meditation sessions, guided embodiment sessions, sound healing sessions and reiki sessions.
Where are these sessions held?
If you are solely looking for wellness services (and are not being seen as a therapy-client), the breathwork meditation sessions, guided embodiment sessions and sound healing sessions are all provided on Zoom and a personal link will be sent to you upon booking. We are available for private in-person sound healing sessions and reiki sessions for individuals, small groups, corporations and events on a case by case basis. Please reach out for more details if you are interested in this.
How long are your private wellness sessions?
All holistic wellness sessions to include: breathwork meditation sessions, guided embodiment sessions, sound healing sessions and reiki sessions are scheduled to be 50 minutes in length, just like our therapy sessions.
If you are interested in a customized length of time, this can be arranged. Please reach out for a personalized quote.
How much do each of the holistic wellness sessions cost?
All private holistic wellness sessions are scheduled to be 50 minutes long at a standard rate of $225.
How are payments made for your holistic wellness sessions?
For the holistic wellness services, payments can be made with all major credit cards, PayPal and Zelle.
For holistic wellness services, when are payments due?
For all holistic wellness services, payments are due at time of booking.
For holistic wellness services, what is your cancellation policy?
For all holistic wellness services, when you schedule an appointment, that time has been specifically reserved for you. If you are unable to keep an appointment, we require 24 hours advance notice or you will be charged for the full fee amount of the canceled or missed appointment. If you cancel with more than a 24 hours advance notice, the amount that you paid upon booking will be refunded back to the original payment method. Thank you for respecting our time and valuing the time that has been set aside for you.
Does it matter which state or country I am located in to receive holistic wellness services?
No, for our holistic wellness services, you can be located anywhere across the globe to receive these services. We run and operate two separate businesses, and Ritualize LLC offers all holistic wellness services for those who are not being treated for a mental health diagnosis. Therefore, these services are not limited to the same regulations as psychotherapy services.
With that said, to emphasize again, for those that are signing up for these these services and are not therapy-clients as well, these sessions will not be held with the intention to treat any mental health diagnosis, though can be used in tandem with treatment, if you are seeing a therapist elsewhere.
